What to look for

A streamlined predator with a blue-green back, a forked tail and sharp teeth. Keep hands outside the mouth.

Where it belongs

Coastal water and estuaries; schools follow prey and can feed near the surface.

How to start

Cast a suitable lure past visible bait activity when you have a safe casting lane. A paddle tail can work, but inspect it and the leader often for tooth damage.

Handle with care

Use long-nose tools and a controlled landing method. Do not grip the fish by placing fingers in its mouth.
