  • Read breaking waves before rigging up

A sensible first session

  1. Visit an authorized access and watch several sets of waves from dry sand.
  2. Start a high-low rig with small shrimp or worm baits; select a sinker your rod can safely cast.
  3. If the rig sweeps toward swimmers or other lines, stop and choose safer water.

Access matters

Little Island Park is a useful facility reference. Seasonal fishing restrictions apply on designated sand beaches; check the city map, current rules and posted signs. A park or beach listing does not authorize fishing along every section.

When to pay attention

Warm-water panfish and migrating drum or bluefish make different trips. Use these as target ideas, then check recent weather and observed bait; no catch forecast is supplied.
