  • Find a safe, legal approach to an edge
  • Avoid anchoring in channels
  • Keep lures above shallow grass or shell

A sensible first session

  1. Use the city’s Lynnhaven facility page to confirm launch and parking details.
  2. With a suitable shore position or properly equipped kayak, work a paddle tail beside an edge rather than across private docks.
  3. Adjust jig weight to maintain control without repeatedly snagging; turn back before wind or current exceeds your ability.

Access matters

The city documents a boat ramp, canoe/kayak access and a beach walkway. That does not make surrounding marsh, oyster grounds, private docks or the inlet channel open fishing access.

When to pay attention

Treat estuary fish as moving targets. Note tide direction, water clarity and bait during your outing, then compare those notes on a return trip.
