MAKE TIME FOR THE WATER.

A short field note for people who would rather be outside. One local place, one useful lesson, and the sources to check before the weekend.

SEVEN CASTSFIELD NOTE 001

Sandbridge · A useful place to start

Read the water before you reach for another rig.

A good trip can begin with a smaller plan: choose your access point, check the conditions, and give yourself a few minutes to watch.

One place: Little Island Park

Start with the City of Virginia Beach’s Little Island Park page for the park map, rules, and current parking information. Decide whether the access and conditions suit your trip before packing the car.

Official park information

One lesson: tide height is only part of the picture.

Tides describe changing water level. Currents describe water moving horizontally. NOAA explains that tides and wind can both drive currents. A tide prediction is useful context; it does not describe every movement of water at your feet.

On your next visit, note the time, tide stage, wind, and what you can actually see. Stay on safe, permitted ground. Compare those notes next time instead of treating a tide time as a promise of fish.

Before you leave

Check the current forecast, tides, access rules, and fishing regulations for your destination.
