A sensible first session

- For freshwater catfish, seek tackle guidance appropriate to fish size and current; this site’s light surf rig is not a trophy-catfish outfit.
- For lower-river saltwater targets, begin at a designated facility and use a controlled bottom presentation.
Access matters
Review freshwater/saltwater jurisdiction, permitted bait and the current consumption advisories for the actual waterbody. Large vessel traffic, tidal flow and private riverbanks make access selection part of the plan.
When to pay attention
DWR describes bass and blue catfish fisheries in the tidal river. Individual species seasons and harvest rules must be checked separately; no spring run or current catch claim is made.
